Job Summary

To provide overall leadership for the development, communication of priorities, implementation, and monitoring of systemwide programs and activities related to recruitment and retention of students. The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Student Enrollment and Retention Services has a particular focus on long-range strategic planning and facilitates the processes that ensure that Strategic Enrollment Management, Student Success, and Academic Affairs are working collaboratively to identify services, programs, and curricular interventions that support student enrollment and degree completion. As a key member of the Office of Strategic Enrollment Management, the AVC will play a critical role in systemwide advising, recruitment, and retention initiatives. As such, the AVC will be responsible for keeping abreast of national trends and participating in scholarly activities to enhance the successful delivery of quality and inclusive student services and programs.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely within the state of Tennessee but with periodic visits to the TBR System Office (Nashville, TN) at the employee's expense, and potential travel to Tennessee TBR colleges.

Job Duties

  • 40% - Serve as the System Office's primary liaison for admissions, records, recruitment, and strategic enrollment management planning in partnership with and support of related institutional staff. This work would include but is not limited to: * Conducting monthly calls with institutional admissions, records, and recruitment leaders, quarterly face-to-face meetings, and administration of smaller working groups for assigned projects. * Supporting strategic enrollment planning activities at the System and campus levels, and in partnership with the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment Management, setting and implementing a strategic direction for SEM planning across the System. * Planning and implementing professional development and support including regular webinars and other trainings. * Jointly manages the Director of Veteran Enrollment and Benefits and supports System-wide efforts to increase enrollment, retention, and completion among TBR's veteran population. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Serve as the System Office's primary liaison for proactive and relational advising and outreach initiatives in partnership with and support of institutional academic, student success, and advising staff. This work will include but is not limited to: * Developing and supporting System-level advising strategies while also supporting advising efforts occurring at the campus level. * Planning and implementing advising professional development and support including regular webinars, monthly calls, and the annual Advising Academy. * Fostering alignment between campuses and external partners through initiatives like the Postsecondary Aligned Advising Endorsement. * Supporting first-year experience courses, orientation, summer bridge programming, and similar initiatives. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Serve as a member of TBR's Office of Strategic Enrollment Management leadership team, and in doing so, help shape strategic student success strategies and programs to increase enrollment and retention for all students. The Assistant Vice Chancellor works in cooperation with units under the umbrella of TBR's Policy and Strategy unit (research and data, academic affairs, and student success and strategic initiatives) to promote best practices in enrollment and student retention. - (Marginal)
  • 10% - In coordination with other TBR staff, provide oversight and strategy for the implementation of the customer relationship database (CRM) for technical colleges and provide support and coordination for the CRM at community colleges. Manage staff dedicated to CRM development and implementation. - (Marginal)
  • 5% - A personal commitment, with assistance from TBR leaders, to devote time to growing and developing as a leader and a colleague. Performs additional duties as assigned. - (Marginal)

Minimum Qualifications

* Master's degree in education, adult education, student personnel, higher education administration, communication, business, or related field
* 5 years of appropriate/relevant experience in student advising, admissions, records, student support services, college access services, postsecondary instruction and/or high impact practice design and implementation
* Demonstrated experience working successfully with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators
* Demonstrated success in project management, program development, developing partnerships, and managing multiple priorities
* Supervision experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Doctoral degree
* Program development and/or management experience at a campus or statewide level;
* Supervisory Experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Excellent interpersonal skills and a track record of project oversight and implementation;
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
* Knowledge of recruitment strategies, including prospective student management, marketing, and targeted recruitment efforts;
* Sensitive to economic, cultural, and other issues relating to challenges to college enrollment by a diverse student body;
* Familiarity with current Federal policies with student financial aid requirements;
* Effective public speaking and presentation skills for a diverse range of audiences;
* Evidenced ability to collect, aggregate, and disseminate data;
* Working knowledge of best practices related to the development and implementation of robust admissions and retention programs;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with rules and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information.
* Ability to self-motivate and work independently
* Proficient in the use of technology to communicate electronically and digitally
* A working familiarity with MS Office programs
* Strong organizational skills
