Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for a full-time Associate Instructor of Truck Driving position at the TCAT Knoxville main campus. This is a grant-funded position, and I will work 37.5 hours a week, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide quality instruction for student learning and to maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom.

Job Duties

  • Instruction: The Truck Driving Instructor is responsible for teaching all phases of the program, including safety regulations; CDL regulations, traffic laws, road atlas, and highway routes; instruments and cab controls; engine and air brake systems, adverse weather condition driving techniques; hazardous materials transportation; clutch, gear and transmission patterns; coupling and uncoupling trailers, obstacle course and backing procedures; defensive driving; and over-the-road driving experiences. Facilitate the classroom instructional process (post-secondary/special industry): evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports. - (Essential)
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in purchasing needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College's decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; develop industry partnerships, maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. - (Essential)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

* Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must hold a valid commercial driver's license in Tennessee with a minimum of three years experience as an over-the-road driver with an exemplary driving record.
* Must be able to organize and provide theoretical and practical instructional activities to enable students to obtain CDL.

* Basic computer skills to perform data entry for testing and email
* Must possess communication skills necessary to effectively interact with students, the public, outside agencies, and employees at all levels, both written and verbally
* Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
* Ability to meet deadlines

SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines.
