Nature of Work
This position requires a motivated, experienced driver who understands the importance of providing safe, quality customer service to our riders. Duties include following an assigned route schedule (Fixed Route drivers), and/or passengers with specific pick-up and drop-off locations (Demand Response drivers). Responsibilities in this position include safe operations of the bus, in compliance with state, county, and departmental regulations; daily Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections; recording information into onboard electronic devices; assisting and securing passengers with mobility devices and assisting elderly and/or disabled passengers on/off the vehicle.
Please note - $3,000 hiring bonus will be paid within your first 18 months of employment and you must remain employed for at least two years (24 months from date of hire).
Examples of Duties
(The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the department. The list is not inclusive. A position may require duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the department.)
- Receives daily fixed route assignments or demand response type service which is dispatched through the onboard electronic device. The client names, locations and requested times for individual passenger trips will be transmitted to the assigned vehicle to be performed.
- Required to assist elderly and disabled passengers when entering and departing the vehicle, which includes properly securing their mobility devices to prevent injury.
- Drives passengers to scheduled destinations, observing safety laws, rules and regulations. Reports accidents of all types to dispatcher and/or supervisor immediately. Reports any malfunction of vehicle to Dispatch or transit supervisor.
- Ability to read and understand transit bus schedules, monitor fare collections, complete required documents (including - Daily Vehicle Inspection Report and Daily Trip Reports), and possess the ability to enter necessary information into onboard electronic devices.
- Responsible for vehicle cleanliness including interior upkeep and performing regular assigned bus wash cycles utilizing the automated bus wash facility.
- Provides information to passengers concerning services when necessary.
- Ability to communicate utilizing two-way radio in a professional manner
- Required to utilize all safety equipment (PPE) while on duty.
Minimum Qualification Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Good knowledge of the geography of the County and of traffic patterns and regulations;
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to keep electronic records and prepare detailed daily reports;
- Ability to provide quality customer service to passengers and peers;
- Ability to safely operate vehicle in congested traffic;
- Ability to assist frail, elderly and disabled individuals on and off vehicle;
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and stand.
EDUCATION: Possess a high school diploma or GED with the ability to read, write and follow directions.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years' experience in driving commercial vehicles preferred.
LICENSE: Must be air brake qualified with a valid CDL Class B-P, with no more than three (3) points.
SAFETY: Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.
