Position Summary
The Department of Radiology at Michigan State University is seeking a well-qualified candidate to serve as Chairperson. This Department is jointly administered by the Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and Human Medicine (CHM). This position is a full-time, annual appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor reporting directly to the Dean of COM and may be in the Tenure System or the Health Programs (HP) faculty appointment system. The Chair is responsible for the vision, strategic planning, leadership, and administration of the educational, research, service, and clinical practice programs of the Radiology Department. A majority of effort will be dedicated to clinical activity, and a portion dedicated to administrative oversight of the department. Additional academic and/or scholarly efforts will be considered based upon experience and expertise. Duties include recruitment, management, career development, mentoring and retention of faculty and staff; fiscal responsibility and accountability for a multifaceted departmental budget; collaboration with College and University partners; and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the department.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead one of the University's most dynamic and successful departments as it enters a new era of clinical and research excellence building on its acclaimed reputation of training future generations of highly skilled and compassionate physicians. The faculty of the Department of Radiology consists of board certified, fellowship trained radiologists, outstanding basic and translational research scientists, and a dedicated teaching faculty. Together they provide comprehensive instruction in anatomical sciences, clinical diagnostic imaging, and biomedical imaging research to pre-health professional students, graduate students, medical students, and medical residents throughout the state of Michigan. The research faculty are internationally renowned investigators focusing on translational, pre-clinical and clinical research. These investigators develop imaging approaches and image-guided therapies for various human pathologies and are well-supported by federally funded grants as well as by industry and philanthropy, ranking the Department of Radiology in the top 50 radiology research departments in the country.
