Department Introduction:
Maps & Records creates and maintains a central resource of historic, current and future land, buildings, real estate and infrastructure information for Stanford University.
Maps & Records is a part of the department of Land, Buildings & Real Estate and serves as a facilities information resource and mapping service for all areas of LBRE and departments campus wide.Job Purpose:
Under general supervision serve as the technical expert in the collection, production and presentation of engineering quality geospatial information. May lead geospatial staff and assist with support of the operations. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Specialist collaborates closely with the Utilities Division, working with project managers or engineers for each assigned utility. This role involves comprehensive project planning, scheduling, and technical coordination with the Field Operations Manager, alongside meeting with Utilities Division representatives to establish schedules, acquire new assignments, and review project requirements.Core Duties*: Percentage of duties breakdown 70%

    Prepare drawings for in-house utility construction, utility maintenance, and/or civil design projects in support of Stanford project management.Become proficient in Open Spatial Software and procedures for on-going utility updating for Stanford's Utility Basemap.Design products to assist customers of Maps and Records in their day-to-day operations; this includes the development of operational maps, models, and presentations.Utilize Drone-collected visual data for civil and underground utility updating.Serve as resource for CAD related training and support for team members.Represent Stanford University to both internal and external groups contacting Maps and Records on matters relating to campus infrastructure or utility marking. This includes developing presentations, attending various meetings, and serving on assigned committees.

Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Must possess strong technical expertise in both Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and database management with emphasis on civil drafting and knowledge. This entails a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk products, showcasing a proficient command of AutoCAD Map 3D, Mapguide, and Raster Design.Have a comprehensive understanding of typical underground utility locating equipment, encompassing single-frequency devices, metal detectors, and current toners.Proficiency in AutoCAD programming languages, specifically LISP and VBA.Must be customer oriented with the ability to lead a team and work effectively with management, staff, and clients.Basic computer literacy is required, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and email communication.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial, enabling effective interaction with a diverse range of individuals such as construction workers, engineers, and project managers.Physical capabilities include the ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. and readiness to work at construction sites in hardhat areas.Possess a general understanding of construction drawing sets, utility maps, and road maps, with the ability to interpret them effectively.
Certifications and Licenses:
    Must possess and maintain a valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License
Physical Requirements:
    Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.Constantly stand/walk utilizing an aerobic capacity for walking 5 miles a dayFrequently twist/bend/stoop/squat.Occasionally sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and carry objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.Occasionally lift/carry/push/pullRarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions:
    Occasionally work evenings and weekends.May perform work outside in variable weather conditions.May be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, noise >80db, allergens/ biohazards/ chemicals/ asbestos.May be required to work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 10 feet.

The expected pay range for this position is $39.90 to $50.48 per hour.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
