Clinical Lab Assistant - Core Laboratory

Part time, 24 hours per week

Day Shift - M,T,TH,F- 4 hour shift each day 11am - 3pm and Wednesday 8 hour shift 7am - 3:30pm

About the Role:

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of clerical and technical duties under general supervision, reporting to a Laboratory Supervisor or Manager. Responsibilities include receiving, accessioning, centrifuging, and decanting patient specimens, as well as communicating with clinicians.

Key Responsibilities:

• Visitor Interaction: Greets and assists visitors at the Front Window.
• Sample Management:
• Reception: Sorts, prioritizes, and receives patient specimens.
• Accessioning: Enters patient information accurately into the computer and labels specimens.
• Processing: Operates automated sample processing instrumentation and transfers samples.
• Communication: Responds to telephone inquiries and processes add-on requests.
• Documentation: Faxes reports, sorts, and files requisitions, and follows department protocols.
• Safety and Cleanliness: Maintains a safe and clean working environment.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Previous laboratory, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred.
• Skills:
• Interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction.
• Ability to multitask and work accurately under stress.
• Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and visual accuracy.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows.
• English language proficiency for communication.

Working Conditions:

• Clinical laboratory environment handling potentially biohazardous body fluid samples.
• Hectic or stressful work environment at times.
• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing, with occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
