The Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology seeks a collaborative, dynamic, and innovative new division director to lead the Division.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

Leadership
  • Developing and leading transformational clinical and research programs
  • Identifying and advocating for emerging and new areas of emphasis and promise
  • Leading recruitment efforts for key faculty and staff psychologist positions.
  • Retaining exceptional and diverse faculty and staff through mentorship and development of academic skills to fulfill the division's mission and responsibilities, including promoting a culture of collaboration and patient-centered care.
  • Achieving excellence in every element of their activities, including clinical, research, education, business and support functions.
  • Creating transparent internal decision-making systems that foster accountability and enable leaders to set priorities and monitor performance against key strategic and operational goals.
  • Partnering with key Mental and Behavioral Health Institute leaders to further Institute initiatives.

Clinical Care
  • Monitors, ensures, and is accountable for faculty and staff psychologist productivity, wellness, and organizational engagement in partnership with the Clinical Associate Division Directors.
  • Ensures compliance with all medical center policies and applicable State and Federal regulations.
  • Serves as the direct liaison to the Chair of Pediatrics/Vice Chair/Mental and Behavioral Health Institute Director/CCHMC Executive Leadership team to promote and share the division's success, while promoting the broader institutional success of CCHMC.

Research
  • Provides a strategic vision to lead and cultivate an environment conducive to transformative research in partnership with the Associate Division Director of Research.
  • Enhances CCHMC's ability to successfully compete for extramural programmatic funding
  • Recruits, develops, and retains research faculty within the division.
  • Oversees research quality and compliance initiatives.

Education and Training
  • Facilitates world-class clinical and educational programming
  • Promotes continuing education programs for professionals, including hospital teaching rounds and lectures.
  • Oversees educational/training program leads and ensures effective mentorship and guidance of trainees in partnership with the Associate Division Director of Education.

Advocacy
  • Embracing and strengthening a culture of belonging and commitment to diversity.
  • Assuring professionalism and a positive culture across division faculty and staff, and adherence to the Cincinnati Children's mission.
  • Maintaining and expanding the extensive interdisciplinary network of interactions with other Divisions and Departments at CCHMC, other academic centers, and industry partners.
  • Serves as an effective and inspirational legislative and policy advocate on behalf of the field of psychology and CCHMC.
  • Actively participates in and leads community involvement and programs. With representatives of relevant community and state agencies, studies community needs and reviews on a regular basis.

MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH INSTITUE:

The Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology (BMCP), in addition to the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics makeup the Mental and Behavioral Health Institute (MBHI) at Cincinnati Children's. Formed in 2023, the MBHI merges research, medical and patient services arms into one unit, guided by a single strategic mission to transform developmental, behavioral and mental health care within Cincinnati Children's and the greater Cincinnati community to ensure patients and their families receive the right level of care at the right time.

DIVISION OF BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY:

The Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology serves children with chronic and acute medical conditions and those with mental and behavioral health concerns. The division's long-term goals are to maximize child health through the interaction of behavioral, cognitive, social and emotional functioning, and physical wellbeing through research, clinical care, and education.
  • Vision is to be the leaders in advancing child behavioral health through pediatric psychology and child clinical psychology.
  • Mission is to establish evidence-based care paradigms of tomorrow through discovery and innovative behavioral science, providing quality clinical care through the implementation of evidence-based practices available today, and to develop and mentor successful researchers and clinicians through our nationally recognized residency and fellowship programs. We accomplish this mission through excellent customer service, quality improvement, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the full utilization of technology and innovation. Our core principles: Be Innovative, Be Compassionate, Go Above and Beyond, Be Collaborative.

The division is internationally recognized for research, clinical, and educational excellence in ADHD, Adherence and Self-Management, Pediatric Pain, Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Psychology, Integrated Behavioral Health, and more. The division is comprised of 83 primary faculty, 58 of whom are involved in patient care. Additionally, there are 74 Staff Psychologists, 19 Social Workers and Clinical Counselors, and 6 Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).

For the past dozen years, the division has been a leading division at Cincinnati Children's in terms of extramural funding with more than $15 million in total award dollars in fiscal year 2024. With ongoing expansion in areas such as integrated behavior health, health equity, adherence and self-management, and behavioral medicine, the division presents an outstanding base upon which a new leader can build.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • PhD or PsyD
  • Ability to obtain State of Ohio Psychology Board licensure
  • Rank of Associate or Full Professor with eligibility for appointment as an affiliated faculty at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
  • Ability to develop a collaborative vision, with a track record of successfully implementing new initiatives that meet the challenges of academic medicine and clinical care
  • Strong record of accomplishment in leadership, people management, and skills in planning and facilitation
  • Demonstration of sustained excellence in research productivity, clinical care, and/or mentorship/teaching of trainees and junior faculty
  • A strong scholarly record, including manuscripts, grants, curricula, and program development
  • Experience leading a group of faculty and/or staff psychologists with wide-ranging clinical and/or research programs
  • Ability to develop a collaborative vision, with a track record for successfully implementing new initiatives that advance the field of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology
  • Financial budgeting and resource management experience
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in alignment with Cincinnati Children's culture and beliefs

  • Demonstration of a personal style that facilitates communication, collaboration, trust, credibility, and confidence among divisional faculty and across Cincinnati Children's
