Position Summary

As a key member of the EHS staff, the EHS Engineer will lead and manage a variety of EHS programs at the site. This position supports day-to-day operations of all functions and groups on site. The primary emphasis is on environmental, health, and safety management, as well as colleague safety and risk assessment. In addition, this position provides technical support and leads programs that assure compliance with all applicable local, State, Federal Regulations and Zoetis Corporate Standards. Develops and directs plant safety and environmental initiatives and leads continuous improvement efforts.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, training, and operational support to all levels of the organization and across all functional groups. Provides day-to-day program management and compliance with site, corporate and regulatory requirements. Serves as an expert environmental, health, and safety resource for the site.
  • Initiates, leads, and implements EHS improvement projects. Participates in EHS risk assessment, self-assessment, audit, and inspection processes.
  • Assists people leaders in the performance of incident investigations and root cause analyses related to EHS-related incidents.
  • Analyzes and prepares documentation, presentations, and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Maintains permit recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Applies standardized safety and industrial hygiene concepts to monitor and evaluate potential workplace exposure hazards and recommends appropriate controls.
  • Interprets Regulations and Corporate Standards of high complexity and assess company adherence and provides solutions for gaining compliance.
  • Manges Safety Programs, such as confined space, Lockout/Tagout and ergonomics.
  • Manages EHS programs, such as regulated waste, air emissions, wastewater effluent and SPCC. Develops effective and efficient manufacturing, laboratory, and facility environmental compliance programs.
  • Serves as a point of contact for regulatory and insurance inspections and project reviews.
  • Facilitates and/or participates on various site committees and teams, such as Energy Conservation and Spill/Emergency Management.
  • Develops and effectively delivers EHS-related training.
  • Provides EHS guidance on Business Continuity Planning (BCP) projects to minimize or eliminate adverse impacts. Leads process hazard analysis. Participates in design reviews, change control and product transfer teams.
  • Participates in the site emergency response process.
  • May serves as a point of contact for regulatory and insurance inspections and project reviews.
  • Complete incident investigations and appropriate notifications, as required.
Education and Experience

Required:

Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related degree with 4 years related experience; OR a master's degree in safety, engineering or related degree with 2 years related experience.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related degree with 7 years related experience; OR a master's degree in safety, engineering or related degree with 4 years related experience. The candidate must thoroughly be knowledgeable in the fields of industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, or environmental sciences. Certification in recognized EHS specialties or professional licensure is preferred.

Technical Skills and Competencies Required
  • Demonstrated sustained high level of performance in a position with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in relevant EHS regulations, principles, pollution control technology, industrial hygiene and safety-related equipment and safeguards and ability to influence decision-making at all organizational levels.
  • Strong technical knowledge and solves practical environmental, worker health and safety problems.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state hazardous waste regulations and wastewater requirements.
  • Can identify complex EHS technical problems, analyze effectively and solve in consultation with supervisor.
  • Investigation abilities and solves problems using some advanced environmental and safety engineering techniques. Leads teams of experts from other functions to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaborates effectively.
  • EHS management systems development and certification experience (ISO 14001, VPP or similar).
