Purpose

The Employment Specialist directly transports or facilitates the usage of other transportation options to employed clients to/from their workplace and organizes and teaches employment orientation classes for newly enrolled employable adults resettled through the Resettlement Program of CWS Lancaster, and/or those referred by the County Assistance Office. Additionally, this position assists clients to obtain documentation and services required to enter the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Transport clients to/from work using CWS or personal vehicle.
  • Organizes schedules and reserve CWS vehicles as appropriate to transport clients.
  • Facilitates client learning of and access to community transportation resources including but not limited to RRTA bus system, client carpooling, and Ride to Work program.
  • Coordinate with the CWS Community Engagement Facilitator to incorporate volunteer support as needed. Serve as a point of contact for volunteers for client needs and follow-up regarding employment transportation needs.
  • In coordination with supervisor and Economic Empowerment team, explore employer partnerships and options to facilitate additional transportation solutions for clients.
  • Keeps vehicles clean and in good condition.
  • Coordinates with the Employment Specialists to identify clients needing transportation.
  • Plans and implements logistics for Employment Orientation classes including locating appropriate classroom space, scheduling class times, securing appropriate interpretation support, and notifying clients of upcoming classes.
  • Provides Employment Orientation class instruction and adjusts format to reflect client needs (i.e. in person, virtual, over the phone).
  • Maintains class attendance.
  • Documents E.O. sessions and follow-ups in clients' case notes. Contribute to program reporting as applicable.
  • Assists clients to obtain Pennsylvania State I.D as needed.
  • Helps clients to open checking accounts and set up Direct Deposit as needed.
  • Assists the Job Readiness Supervisor, Job Placement Supervisor and the Economic Empowerment Program Manager in any duties they deem necessary.

Common Duties:

  • Advocates on behalf of refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to clients, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Performs all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned.
  • Works varied hours.

Qualifications

Education: Associate degree or High School Diploma/GED equivalent with two years of relevant work experience

Experience: Previous work experience and interest in refugee resettlement or other direct social services. The ability to provide culturally sensitive assistance is required.

Other Skills:

Fluency in English. Written and verbal communication skills are required. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Internet applications.

  • This position requires in-person work at the CWS Lancaster office
  • Valid driver's license and insurance
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Access to Personal vehicle
  • Must be able to travel frequently and independently throughout relevant region
  • Must be able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as assigned
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
