JOB OVERVIEW:
The Environmental Compliance Specialist position will work closely with Corporate Safety, Plant Management, Supervisors, and Employees to plan, organize, and manage environmental compliance functions at the corporate and facility level. The role will include auditing, training, assessments/inspections, recordkeeping, and oversight of environmental compliance activities. The perfect candidate will have a combination of education and experience in environmental compliance within a manufacturing environment. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively lead initiatives and engage groups throughout the organization. They must have excellent analytical skills and be a good problem solver. A working knowledge of current environmental regulations is highly valued.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan, organize, and manage environmental compliance functions for all VDF facilities.
• Provide Leadership and direction in the development, implementation, and oversight of environmental compliance.
• Work closely with site leadership to establish standard operating procedures and sustainable environmental initiatives.
• Assess, interpret and communicate environmental laws and regulations.
• Maintain records of emissions, permits, waste disposal and other pertinent records.
• Perform and assist in planning and scheduling of required environmental training.
• Coordinate the investigation of compliance incidents at the plant level.
• Coordinate and oversee regulatory compliance audits and inspections and associated recordkeeping.
• Lead/participate in the review of new equipment and facilities that may have environmental compliance implications.
• Lead environmental abatement activities as required.

JOB EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing environment.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Required skills:
• Positive attitude with excellent communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in the development and implementation of procedures and programs.
• Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
• Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork and open communication.
• Must be able to work safely and effectively within manufacturing, agricultural, and construction environments.
Technical Skills:
• Must be tech savvy and a quick learner.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferred Skills:
• Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a significant plus.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations including air quality, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous, universal and solid waste, and chemical/oil management.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Manufacturing, warehouse, agricultural, construction, and office environments
• Occasional excessive noise levels
• Occasional dusty environments
• Occasional hot environments
• Slip hazards such as water and product on the floor
• Moving parts and energy hazards
• Temporary work in freezer environments
