Job Description:

Sanofi Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) is dedicated to developing cell and gene therapy products that bring cures to patients with unmet medical need. GMU CMC is committed to building best-in-class CMC technology to corroborate successful development of GMU programs. The Expression Platform Development team within GMU CMC Predevelopment group is responsible for the development and optimization of viral vector production platforms. We are seeking a highly motivated Co-Op student to join the team and contribute to our goals on optimizing recombinant AAV (rAAV) production platforms.

The successful candidate will work with his/her supervisor to design, plan and conduct molecular biology and cell culture experiments to evaluate strategies to improve AAV production platforms through expression vector modification and/or host cell line engineering. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work both independently as well as part of the team to achieve platform development goals. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop a diverse skill set in molecular biology and cell culture, including next generation assay technologies. Through this experience, he or she will gain knowledge on rAAV production platforms, rAAV manufacturing challenges and optimization strategies as well as general drug product development process in industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mammalian cell culture experiments including cell maintenance, cell transfection and/or infection, main function is suspension cell culture in bioreactors.
  • Work with supervisor to design, plan and execute experiments, analyze experimental results and prepare presentations for data interpretation and discussing.
  • Conduct molecular biology assays such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and qPCR, western blot etc.
  • Document laboratory experiments in a timely manner.
  • Take and complete assigned trainings.
  • Observe and follow Sanofi people and culture practice.

About you

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an Engineer, Chemistry, Biology or similar BS, MS or Ph.D degree program with GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or equivalent.
  • Comfortable working in BSL2 environment
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship/co-op with Sanofi
  • Must be able to relocate to our Waltham office location and work 40hrs/week for the full duration of the Co-op
  • Must have permanent US work authorization

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture/aseptic techniques, cell culture in bioreactor experience preferred.
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft office software such as Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to communicate with supervisor and team effectively
  • Pay attention to details and possess good organizational skills
  • Critical thinking skills and Innovative, creative mindset
