As the community center of the University, the Illini Union draws together all members of the University with approximately 16,000 visits of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests on a daily basis. Job Summary
Responsible for creating and designing educational, informational, and promotional materials that support the operations and activities of the Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing marketing team and associated clients, as well as enrich its visual identity.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and create marketing communication materials for the Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing and associated clients as needed - print and electronic. Check proofs during production stages and review quality of final products before release to clients. Collaborate with clients to review Marketing objectives and design solutions. Offer suggestions, alternatives, and ideas when appropriate. Materials include, but not limited to posters, flyers, brochures, catalogs, newsletters, displays, outdoor and environmental signage, digital signage, social media, and web pages. Adhere to the University of Illinois' graphic identity standards. Prioritize projects as they relate to use of design time.
  • Research, create, and execute strategic marketing campaigns designed to increase brand awareness of the Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing units and increase traffic and interest in programming events, including: student programs and activities and department sponsored events and programs. Meet project deadlines and demonstrate a critical eye for detail.
  • Develop multiple design concepts for consideration as needed.
  • Work as part of a creative team that includes full-time Illini Union Marketing staff and part-time students. Meets with Auxiliary, Health, and Wellbeing departments: prepares and gives presentation to departments.
  • Work with vendors to obtain cost estimates for projects, meeting quality and financial specifications. Oversee the production of such materials, working with both on- and off-campus print vendors.
  • Check proofs during production stages and review quality of final products before release to clients.
  • Ensure all aspects of print production, including sustainability concerns.
  • Remain up-to-date on current design trends and production techniques to help ensure that the client's communication efforts are up-to-date and effective in reaching target audiences.
  • Accepts other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Specialty Factors
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area, that included graphic design experience supporting healthcare or wellbeing initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of graphic design methods and any technological changes affecting the profession.
  • Working understanding of printing processes and typography. Proficiency in current design software, Adobe Creative Suite CC (specifically InDesign and Illustrator) and Adobe Cloud.
  • Ability to use design to help audiences better understand complex concepts or ideas.
  • Interpersonal communication skills, organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task, often with frequent interruptions and meet concurrent deadlines.
  • Familiarity with medical clinic processes, procedures, and jargon.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/2/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $50,000 - $55,000 per year. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Urbana-Champaign each week). Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position now or in the future.
