Mon-Fri, day shift (no weekends) Start time is typically 5:30-6:30am but manager has some flexibility.
POSITION SUMMARY
Precisely and accurately performs a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures.
Follows standard operating procedures for the grossing of small specimens, quality control, and quality assurance.
Meets schedules, priority demands, and deadlines.
Demonstrates flexibility and versatility in coordinating tasks.
Takes on special projects.
Qualifications:
At least 2 years of Histotech laboratory experience at a hospital or private laboratory
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution;
Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution,
Current HT, HTL, or MLT (ASCP) registration
Responsibilities:
Adheres to laboratory protocols for specimen handling, microtomy, and staining
Operates and maintains equipment following USDH and lab procedures
Ensures artifact-free microtomy and precise staining for diagnostic slides
Completes daily workload within scheduled shift
Manages supplies efficiently, notifies supervisor when additional supplies are needed
Prioritizes tasks for optimal use of resources and technician time
Expedites "STAT" specimens
Files blocks and slides, retrieves items upon request
Disposes of hazardous chemicals per regulatory guidelines
Maintains knowledge of laboratory inspection guidelines and follows OSHA and CAP safety regulations
Follows HIPAA regulation standards set by USDH
Accurately prepares histologic slides for Pathologist diagnosis
Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains, and preserves specimens for examination
Records and logs the number of blocks and slides prepared each day
Sends out slides and blocks when requested by outside facilities
Maintains CAP required logs and policies
Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions, safety practices, and hazardous waste management
Familiar with the use of Pathology-specific equipment, reagents, and solutions
Ensures regular attendance and reports to work as scheduled
Maintains confidentiality of patient, practice, and staff information
