Installation Engineer (Office-based)

Charlotte, NC - hybrid

Summary of the role

The Field Engineering team's main objective is technical governance for all site activities with the goal of enabling site teams to achieve technical excellence. More specifically, the Field Engineer is responsible for technical preparation and documentation of installation activities. The Field Engineer will have the opportunity to learn and work on all products that ANDRITZ Hydro installs on site such as Turbine-Generator units, Gates, Main Inlet Valves, Automation, etc.

The following responsibilities form the core of this role:

During the project's preparation and planning phase:

  • Review the technical specifications from the contract,
  • Actively contribute to design reviews and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce risks, cycle, and cost of installation,
  • Technical governance and customer relations on Field technical matters,
  • Ensure on-time production and submittal of Field Technical documentation,
  • Analyze, determine the needs and lead the design efforts for special tooling including:
    • Cribbing plans;
    • Rigging plans;
    • Handling and installation tools, etc.

During the project's execution phase:
  • Enhance Field Service team technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.,
  • Participate in technical training of site teams,
  • Review and/or execute analysis and installation calculations,
  • Provide support the site teams regarding the technical issues or challenges,
  • Collaborate in resolving complex problems,
  • Participate in the lessons learned process,
  • Contribute to the implementation of technical improvements recommended by Design Engineering or the field service teams.

General - not project specific:
  • Document technical expertise and best practices,
  • Contribute to the Generator Stator Winding Training Center.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years experience in mechanical design of heavy industrial components
  • P.E. license preferred
  • 3D / 2D CAD proficiency preferred. AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX.
  • Working knowledge in capital equipment, welding, custom fabrication, and/or piping.
  • Experience designing large rotation equipment.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize work and maintain deadlines.
