Under close supervision, the Intern performs routine assignments that are clearly defined and require the application of standard design techniques, procedures and criteria. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering discipline.
DESCRIPTION: TAI Engineers is currently seeking Structural Engineers. Primary responsibilities include:
- Support in preparing finite element models for static as well as dynamic analyses including global strength and spectral fatigue analyses.
- Prepare technical reports documenting analysis methodology, results, and conclusions.
- Carrying out structural analysis using standard beam analysis software, performing hand calculations, and providing engineering conclusions based on the analysis data.
- Performs structural design and analysis of new built as well as existing marine structures.
- Familiar with marine engineering guidelines such as ABS Rules, DNV Rules
Internship requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing an engineering degree. Must have working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. Previous internship experience is preferred, but not required. Must possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship.
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously, coupled with the ability to plan and perform work in a team environment or independently is required.
- Experience with other common industry software such as Matlab, Python, VBA, Rhinoceros 3D, Solidworks is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSOccasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENTNormal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
