Position Overview

The Local and Community Affairs Manager will lead local outreach and act as relationship lead with county/municipal officials, local taxing bodies, chambers and Economic Development Organizations where Invenergy has a development or operational presence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead local outreach and act as relationship lead with county/municipal officials, local taxing bodies, chambers and Economic Development Organizations where Invenergy has an operational or development presence in Texas.
  • Represent the projects and Invenergy in meetings with county/municipal officials, local taxing bodies, landowners, and other local and state stakeholders.
  • Understand and explain benefits of operational projects and projects in development to communities.
  • Work with Invenergy's Development team to negotiate and obtain certain county and municipal approvals required for project development.
  • Lead development and implementation of a structured community relations program across Texas to support Invenergy's planned developments and operating projects
    • The goal of the community relations program will be to build awareness of and position Invenergy as a good corporate citizen both in local project communities and with statewide NGOs in the energy industry, economic development, non-profit and other realms.
    • Work with the Invenergy Communications and Impact teams to ensure the Texas community relations plan aligns with company priorities and partnerships.
  • Strategically communicate with internal and external audiences about Invenergy's presence in Texas, benefits of the industry to the state and potential issues and opportunities for the company.
  • Monitor local project opposition and develop relationships and educate key individuals to neutralize or mitigate the spread of opposition.
  • Coordinate with local counties and government groups as needed.
  • Summarize key statistics about the benefits of operational projects and projects in development for external stakeholders.
  • Maintain close coordination with Invenergy's Government Affairs team to assist with outreach to and influence of Texas State and Federal officials.
  • Serve as the local contact for priority Invenergy stakeholders across Texas, maintaining relationship continuity across projects, technologies, and geographies.
  • Coordinate with Invenergy Asset Management, Operations and Development to identify key stakeholders and advance goals within those departments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience working with coalitions, local political and stakeholder engagement in Texas.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years' career experience in fields including infrastructure or real estate development, public affairs, communications, government, politics, law, engineering, environment, sustainability or related fields.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Experience working with Texas county/municipal officials, local taxing bodies, chambers and Economic Development Organizations
  • Must be able to travel more than 50% of the time, including being the holder of a driver's license and be willing and able to operate personal and/or rented vehicle for travel to project locations, as many are not accessible by public transit.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Comfortable and experienced in presenting information to a wide variety of audiences and in a wide variety of settings, including in one-on-one meetings, public events and in the media.
  • Familiarity of the energy industry.
  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership and time management skills.
  • Ability to write effective, concise reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner, while using sound critical thinking and judgement.
