Caterpillar is seeking a Material Requirements Manager in Victoria, TX. In this role, you will supervise the material planning and functions for the facility, ensuring material availability and drive disciplined inventory systems usage and collaboration with material suppliers. As a management position, you'll also have a team of direct reports to supervise, coach and develop!

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Plan and direct the material planning and material logistic functions to meet the facility plan objectives and satisfy customer needs
  • Plan, initiate, and maintain a material procurement process that establishes and achieves the least total cost, best quality and timely delivery for facility material purchases from internal/external suppliers
  • Manage inventory and record accuracy through monitoring shortage / surplus exception, supplier follow ups, negative on-hands and daily delivery performance
  • Interface with Operations, Business Resources, Global Purchasing, Suppliers, Logistics, Engineering and worldwide Cat facilities
  • Provide leadership and support to projects driving the implementation of improved supply-base management, including optimizing inventory levels, lot sizing, lead times, packaging, and transportation costs
  • Establish and nurture supplier relationships; Lead facility projects that identify and implement methods to assure suppliers are meeting Caterpillar's technological, communication, material delivery, financial management, and quality needs
  • Provide material requirements expertise to project teams implementing supplier improvement efforts, Six Sigma projects and Lean Events as required
  • Select, train and assist direct reports while providing career guidance and opportunity for added experience and training
  • Supervise Supply Chain Development program participants, ensuring a robust developmental experience in alignment with the standard rotation requirements.
  • Coordinating with Demand and Order team, manufacturing and suppliers on short and long-term production forecasts and expected deliverables.
  • Work closely with the purchasing team to ensure purchasing strategies are maximized.
  • Ensure that material scheduling strategy and processes are in place and work effectively to ensure material supply meets production requirements with minimum stock levels, whilst optimizing costs
  • Support new business initiatives and projects and contribute to review meetings and change process. Ensure effective.
  • Take ownership of material planning issues that arise, including over or under delivery and take any follow up actions especially in the event of material shortages that affect production.
  • Contribute to the assessment and sourcing of suppliers in conjunction with members of the purchasing team.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and ensure demand for materials is met and deliveries made on time.
A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Top Candidates for this position may also have:
  • 4+ years of manufacturing facility experience in material planning / control, purchasing, parts distribution, inventory control, manufacturing engineering, operations and transportation or logistics
  • Experience in Material Planning and 6 Sigma
  • In-depth understanding of supply base utilization
  • Strong knowledge of production scheduling and capacity management
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot SAP and MRP systems
  • Thorough knowledge of Caterpillar products
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills in order to facilitate sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific action
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
