This is an open position with Metropolitan Edison-Easton Fleet Services, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [ME]

JOB SUMMARY:

Mechanics perform duties in and around a company garage required to service, clean, repair, inspect, test and maintain all automotive in good operating condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Under close supervision or direction and as assigned:

  • Assists other Mechanics in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all transportation and construction units and equipment.
  • If State certified, may perform State Inspections on automobiles and light trucks on a voluntary basis as a Mechanic-Apprentice 2nd Year (2133).
Under directive supervision or direction and as assigned:
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair work on all types of transportation and construction equipment. Examples: Lubes and changes oil and filters, replaces batteries and cables, replaces shocks, adjusts clutch pedal.
  • Will be expected to use simple hand and power tools.
  • May be assigned personnel of equal or lesser classification to assist him/her in the performance of his/her duties.
  • Performs other related or lesser skilled duties for which he/she is qualified or has received proper instruction or direction.
  • Learns the duties of Mechanic-2nd Class-Transportation and must pass written and practical examinations to qualify for advancement to this higher classification within a two-year period. Will be advanced to Mechanic-2nd Class-Transportation after successful completion of these examinations and one year's experience as a Mechanic-Apprentice (2nd Year)-Transportation. Failure to meet these requirements within two years will result in the employee being reassigned to the classification of Utility Worker- "A".
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
  • Must possess a Vo-Tech education in auto mechanics or pass an equivalency test as administered by the Company.
  • Must become familiar with the Company's Safety Rules including methods of resuscitation.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license which will allow him/her to legally operate all Company vehicles.
  • Normal health, physique and use of senses including color perception as indicated by passing the physical examination given by a Company physician when required.
  • Strength adequate to perform the duties of this classification.
  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings.
  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours and/or a shift and/or a scheduled operation.
  • Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
