Matrix Providers is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team of talented professionals who provide healthcare services to our Military Service Members and their families at The 96th Medical Group Campus in Valparaiso, FL.

  • Employment Status: Full-time
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position.
  • Schedule: The Contractor shall perform the services required under this contract during the following hours: 5:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (CST) Sunday thru Saturday except when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government-directed facility closings. The shift will be 9 hours per day (to include a one-hour, non-paid lunch break). Routine work hours will be scheduled to correspond with the needs of the department to accommodate demand.

Requirements: The Medical Laboratory Technologist must have and meet the following:
  • Degree/Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Graduation from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or state licensure as a medical laboratory technician. The contractor shall hold the current American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at no cost to the government. Certification granted based solely on computer-based training does not constitute fulfillment of this requirement.
  • Experience: The technician shall have at least 12 months of experience within the past 24 months.
  • Licensure/Registration: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or state licensure as a medical laboratory technician.
Job Summary:
  • The Medical Laboratory Technician shall perform precise and accurate laboratory testing according to established local laboratory operating instructions. Perform routine and highly complex procedures in microbiology, serology, chemistry,
    blood bank, urinalysis, blood bank, phlebotomy, and shipping departments.
  • Demonstrate current clinical knowledge, abilities & skills needed to provide high-quality patient care. Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests either manually or using advanced automated instrumentation.
  • Calibrate, run controls, standardize, troubleshoot, and maintain all equipment by manual specifications and standard procedures. Complete training requirements for applicable Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Record test results on logs and enter results in the Composite Healthcare System (CHCS) or any applicable Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Reports critical values by telephone to the provider.
  • Participate in College of American Pathologists (CAP) surveys.
  • Manually perform and independently interpret RSV, Rapid Strep, occult blood, and C.Diff testing, among other rapid testing. Independently prep, read, and accurately interpret gram stains and wet preps.
  • Independently perform manual calculations on complex 24-hour urine assays, perform dilutions, and pre-treat specimens for various tests, interpret cardiac marker testing, total lipids, renal tests, thyroid testing, etc. Integrate and correlate the normality of the highly technical analyzers and patients.

  • Perform and interpret reactions in procedures to determine blood type by either manual test tube method or more automated gel method, blood transfusion screening to detect antibodies, i.e., enzyme testing, antibody absorption, evaluation
    of material sensitization, and similar tests in the study of transfusion reactions in cases of incompatible blood matches, and emergency release procedures as mandated by health care providers.
  • Perform routine and complex hematological studies on all cellular blood elements. Uses vast experience and knowledge to evaluate abnormal results and perform differential counts of complex abnormalities of white blood cells and red blood
  • cells to include complex medical cases such as leukemia, anemia, and parasite recognition. Perform malaria rapid testing and workup. Directly perform automated coagulation studies.
  • Use vast knowledge and experience to perform manual and automated body fluid counts, White Blood Cell differentials, crystal analysis, post-vast workups, semen analysis, and urine chemistry testing.
  • Receive written requisitions from health care providers for routine and special laboratory tests.
  • Obtain laboratory specimens directly from patients by venipuncture. Prepare test orders and specimens for transport to referral MTFs and local hospitals by federal regulatory guidelines.
  • Transcribe completed laboratory reports received from reference laboratories into CHCS/LIS.
  • Monitor the timely receipt of test results from the laboratory.
  • Instruct and provide technical guidance to phase II students and laboratory technicians regarding the practical application of laboratory procedures and methodologies; advise them of management's policies, required procedures, and directives; review their work and note and report training progress to the employees' supervisors. Provide quality control guidance to trainees to ensure that their test results conform to the required accuracy, precision, reliability, and good technique standards.
  • Perform general light cleaning of work areas such as trash collection, bench tops, and light dusting. Accomplish restocking of departments. Treat patient information, no matter how developed, as privileged information. Patient information shall not be disclosed or revealed in any way for any use
    outside the MTF without prior written permission by the Chief of Hospital Services.
  • Respect and maintain the fundamental rights of patients, and demonstrate concern for personal dignity and human relationships. Healthcare workers receiving complaints validated by the FRED, COR, and Chief of the Medical Staff shall be subject to re-training, employer notification, and, depending on the nature and severity of the complaint, separation from performing services under this contract. Maintain open and professional communication with members of the MTF staff,
    MTF customers and other contractor employees. COR will report valid complaints in writing to the CO for action. Valid complaints will be considered performance failure. The contractor shall resolve all substantiated complaints immediately upon notification of the complaint and no later than the suspense date provided by the CO or designated representative.
  • Medical Laboratory Technicians shall establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization professionally. The contract employee shall complete all initial, recurring, and new training required to comply with hospital Education and Training policies.
