Multicultural Education Coordinator

Salary/Position Classification

• 24.04 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
• 10 hours per week
• This position will work onsite on our Grand Forks, ND campus.

The Multicultural Coordinator will work closely with the Associate Dean for Multicultural Education to
promote diversity and equity in the School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) in several capacities. These include:

• Serve as a member of the following committees:
  • Affinity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Committee (AEIB)
  • Multicultural Curriculum Committee (formally the DEI Curriculum Committee)
  • Other important committees as needed that address multicultural education issues.
• Assist in the development and teaching of curriculum in the medical, health sciences, and graduate programs regarding multicultural education and health disparities.
• Assist with establishing partnerships with tribal colleges to develop a strong pathway for Indigenous pre-meds and other pre-health students.
• Assist with strengthening internal collaborations at UND with National Resource Center on Native American Aging, Center for Rural Health, American Indian Studies, RAIN, American Indian Center, Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics, and Native Americans in Sciences (SACNAS), and other programs.
• Collaborate with INMED Board and UND Alumni Association and Foundation to establish endowed professorships and endowed scholarships to expand programming (identify and engage individual, corporate, and tribal donors).
• Collaborate with partners across campus to expand multicultural education efforts.

• Indigenous Health Programming
  • Assist with establishing partnerships with tribal colleges to develop a strong pathway for Indigenous pre-meds and other pre-health students.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to work in a high-throughput office while maintaining a positive attitude and easy-going manner
• Ability to work in an environment when interruptions are expected to occur regularly
• Ability to read, interpret and follow policies.
• Ability to develop and execute written plans for recruitment and retention purposes.
• Will utilize knowledge of American Indian culture

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Health, or related field
• 1-year experience working with students from underserved populations.
• Direct experience working with tribal colleges in ND (may include academic, volunteer, or work experiences)
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

• Master's degree in education, public health, or related field.
