Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Position Summary:

THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 2 YEARS.

The research coordinator will execute a complex, NIH-funded clinical trial to evaluate an innovative transitional care intervention for adults discharged from a skilled nursing facility to home. This research coordinator will collaborate with a research team with extensive experience in nursing home research and team-based intervention research. The research coordinator will be responsible for three core areas: (1) Travel to 6 skilled nursing facilities in the Hickory Winston-Salem Greensboro area to recruit and enroll 180 patients and 180 caregivers for the research study in-person and by telephone. The research coordinator must be able to engage, communicate with and attend to time constraints related to interaction with the patient population, which will include those with Alzheimer s disease and related dementia. The research coordinator will: (1) Obtain informed consent from participants, caregivers / legally authorized representatives. (2) Collect and manage baseline data through both survey and medical chart review for all participants. (3) Communicate effectively with the Principal Investigator, project manager, clinical staff, and other study team members. The study coordinator will serve as the primary study team member on site at the skilled nursing facilities, tasked with enrolling participants, tracking and reporting progress, collecting and managing data and monitoring implementation of the intervention.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Must have at least basic knowledge of research regulations and best practices. Must have demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities, attend to large amounts of research data, and identify and solve potential problems independently throughout the trial. The position requires significant attention to detail and strong time management skills. Must be able to integrate into clinical environments, recognize needs and adapt as needed to achieve goals.

Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. Must have reliable transportation, a good driving record and be willing to travel to sites within an approximate 100-mile radius of UNC-Chapel Hill.

Must be with proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience recruiting and consenting for a large-scale clinical trial, especially in a skilled nursing facility or working with older adults.
Experience collecting and managing survey data in-person and by telephone.
Experience using REDCap and Electronic Health Record Systems (e.g., Epic).
