Job Summary
Develop an optical tomography-based method for full three-dimensional reconstruction of live Tumor Spheroids with chemical specificity. The role involves development of optical instrumentation, collecting data and interfacing with other imaging modalities (Stimulated Raman Scattering, Fluorescence, Brightfield) data analysis, writing reports and research articles and presenting research updates at international conferences.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Developing instrumentation for chemically specific 3D optical tomography of manufactured tumor spheroids.
  • Developing software for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Calibrating and validating instruments for benchmarking studies and collecting data.
  • Training graduate students/researchers to collect data.
  • Crafting scholarly research articles and comprehensive progress reports to ensure sustained funding.
  • Showcasing research advancements by presenting updates at international conferences and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

• Proven expertise in the design and fabrication of optical tomography systems, including Spectral Domain OCT, Swept Source OCT, Full field OCT, Intensity Diffraction Tomography or Fourier Ptychography.

• Proficiency with CAD, Zemax and programming languages like C# and MATLAB.

• Experience mentoring undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students.

• Certification or training in relevant laboratory safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-doctoral experience in designing and building optical tomography instrumentation, intensity diffraction tomography systems or Fourier ptychography-based systems.

• Previous publication of research articles and reports for maintaining continued funding.

• Broad understanding of spectroscopy and microscopy.

• History of presenting research updates at international conferences and meetings.

• Certifications in CAD, LabView and/or MATLAB.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of optical tomography and similar tomographic techniques.

• Proficiency in the design and fabrication of optomechanical and optical components of microscopes.

• Proficiency in the development of software for instrument control (C#, LabView, Python, MATLAB).

• Excellent scientific writing skills for research articles and reports.

• Proposal writing and grant application expertise.

• Effective presentation skills for international conferences and meetings.

• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in a research-intensive, multidisciplinary environment.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000/year. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements and budget constraints.
