Role Description

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Biologics Analytical Sciences in Lincoln, NE is seeking a scientist at the Scientist/Senior Scientist level. The successful candidate will work with other analytical to execute analytical testing in support of biopharmaceutical and/or vaccine product development. The incumbent will also be responsible for analytical method development, validation, and transfer exercises as appropriate. The candidate in this position will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams (analytical, bioprocess, clinical) and support multiple projects in development.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments including analytical method development, validation and transfer. Primary techniques are mass spectrometry (LC-MS and LC-MS/MS), HPLC, immunoaffinity based separations/extractions/assays, electrophoresis, spectrophotometric assays, and microplate-based assays.
  • Execute analyses of peptides and proteins using different types of mass spectrometers (e.g. single quadrupole, triple quadrupole, quadrupole time-of-flight).
  • Perform characterization of peptides and protein PTMs such as disulfide bonds, methionine oxidation, deamidation, etc. using mass spectrometry.
  • Perform analytical methods necessary for the development and characterization of proteins and peptides in vaccines and therapeutic formulations.
  • Document and communicate results in laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and oral presentations.
  • Collaborate with other scientists in a variety of technical disciplines including within Analytical Sciences, Process Development, Biological Research, Regulatory, Quality Control and Manufacturing.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • BS with 5+ years of experience, MS with 4+ years of experience, or PhD with 0+ years of experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than two years of industry experience in developing, validating, and transferring biopharmaceutical and/or vaccine analytical methods.
  • Experience in analytical method development utilizing techniques such as HPLC, electrophoresis, and/or mass spectrometry.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements associated with USDA and EU biologics submissions.
  • Knowledge of GxPs, including analytical method validation and transfer.
  • Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving, and continuous improvement.
