Job Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Security Services and within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, responsible for performing a variety of duties, including patrolling, and monitoring an assigned area.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AVADE (Workplace Violence Prevention training required within three (3) months of hire
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills required
- Demonstrated basic computer skills required
- Demonstrated good judgment required; demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to both verbal and written instructions required
- 1 year experience / 21 years of age
- Healthcare experience / Law enforcement experience
- Availability to work weekends, and holidays required
- Completion of Handcuffing certification within 2 weeks of hire
- Completion of IAHSS basic certification within 90 days of hire
- Exposure to Oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray including end user instruction and training
- BLS within 90 days

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to security and life safety issues as needed.
- Demonstrates competence in the performance of duties and responsibilities related to interior security and safety.
- Tours buildings and grounds periodically, minimum of 4 rounds per shift, examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure and not tampered with.
- Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances.
- Utilizes emergency fire equipment (alarms, fire extinguishers) adequately and appropriate.
- Records and reports any safety violations, plant equipment failure, plumbing, heating, or electrical malfunctions.
- Checks persons for unauthorized weapons or contraband as requested by medical staff and confiscates and stores weapons/contraband as required. Notifies police department when appropriate.
- Responds to all calls for assistance.
- Maintains a 100% response rate for assistance.
- Responds to all calls for assistance immediately unless involved in or responding to an emergency situation. Documents details on the daily shift reports.
- Checks vehicles for signs of theft/vandalism.
- Enforces parking policy with issuance of written warnings.
- Checks condition of parking lots/sidewalks in inclement weather and notifies/assists appropriate personnel for sanding and shoveling.
- Is actively checking exterior lights to ensure that all lights are working properly and reports any lighting that is not working properly.
- Completes required paperwork to account for all security related actions.
- Completes all reports by the end of assigned shift.
- Completes incident reports, occurrence forms, injury reports, and fall occurrence forms.
- Notifies Senior Manager, Security Services of major incidents.
- Initiates investigations for all security related incidents.
- Incident reports are completed accurately 100% of time.
- Participates in appropriate role in hospital disasters, fires, drills, and other emergency situations.
- Responds appropriately to violent/psychiatric patients. Notifies police department when appropriate.
- Provides crowd control and dispersal when appropriate and notifies police dept. for assistance when needed.
- Demonstrates competence in the performance of duties and responsibilities related to maintaining Security equipment and the work environment.
- Exercises care in the operation of hospital equipment and reference material.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
- Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
- Physically must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to run to any emergency within the hospital and be able to verbally and physically control an emergency situation upon arrival if necessary.
- Strong sight and hearing abilities needed in order to effectively deal with diverse and emergency situations.
- Ability to use enough force to subdue or restrain someone if necessary.
- Technology: use of access control and database software, communications equipment, and first aid equipment. Ability to trouble shoot systems when necessary.
- Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Perform other functions/duties as requested.
