Job Description:
This position is specifically for a professional engineer to serve as a Bridge Planning Engineer within our Bridge Evaluation Section in the Bridge Division.
Are you a professional engineer passionate about bridge inspection and committed to advancing the quality of Nebraska's bridge infrastructure? The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a highly skilled professional engineer to join our Bridge Division, focusing on supporting the management of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) program and conducting challenging field inspections of our state bridges.
NDOT manages over 3,500 state-owned bridges and oversees data management for an additional 15,000 bridges throughout Nebraska. This position provides the opportunity to be at the forefront of bridge safety, performing technically rigorous inspections that contribute directly to the safety and reliability of our infrastructure. You will play a critical role in transitioning our inspection approach towards a more in-depth, quality-driven process, emphasizing comprehensive quality control, data integrity, and precise identification of maintenance needs.
Pay range is $40.088 -$59.095 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.
Job Duties:
The Senior Bridge Inspection Engineer will play a critical role in enhancing bridge inspection quality and supporting the NBIS program. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1.NBIS Program Support: Assist in managing the NBIS program, ensuring compliance with federal and state standards, and contributing to audits and evaluations.
2.Field Inspections: Conduct and oversee complex field inspections, particularly of challenging structures, and ensure thorough assessments of bridge conditions.
3.Quality Assurance: Execute quality control procedures, review inspection reports, and ensure consistent, high-quality inspection documentation.
4.Data Management Support: Ensure the accuracy of inspection data in AASHTOWare BrM, providing recommendations and supporting data management to maintain a reliable bridge inventory.
5.Consultant Coordination: Manage and oversee consultants performing bridge inspections, ensuring adherence to NDOT requirements.
6.Training and Policy Involvement: Contribute to policy development, train field inspectors, and represent NDOT in public forums or conferences.
7.Program Improvement and Collaboration: Work with other divisions to improve inspection processes and participate in cross-functional initiatives.
8.Risk Assessment: Evaluate risk levels based on inspection findings and support emergency response efforts.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and one year of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
