Cenovus is looking for a Senior Manager, Deployed Health and Safety at our Superior, WI refinery. As a Senior Manager you will drive management system enhancement and true implementation of advanced safety systems and processes in greater organization. You will influence the behavior of site Health and Safety team and site leaders and employees to promote a true culture of safety. Your role will involve leading the Health and Safety team in driving strong safety and process safety performance through setting of site occupational and process safety goals, helping site to measure and analyze performance trends, and overseeing audit and assurance activities vs. requirements.

What you'll do:

  • Lead Health and Safety role at Superior facility. Responsible for quality of work execution of safety workflows such as MOC, HAZOP, LOPA, incident investigation, hygiene monitoring, injury classification and management, etc.
  • Provide functional coaching and steering to team members on technical topics such as occupational safety and health, process safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene in addition to coaching on soft skills such as diplomacy, emotional intelligence, and presentation and influence techniques.
  • Provide site with a view of "what good looks like" in terms of various industry and system practices to ensure the continued advancement of site execution. Coach others outside of direct team on implementation aspects as required.
  • Influence/Persuade site leadership decision making and action to ensure safety culture is reinforced.
  • Serve as site steward for COIMS management system principle application (15 elements) and interpretation of other corporate requirements, and assist the entity in developing gap closure plans for initiatives such as COIMS management system implementation, audit gap closure, and insurance findings.
  • Define and oversee internal audit program (Line of Defense layers 1 and 2) over site conducted activities and management system practices. Serve as focal point for other corporately or externally conducted audits on H&S topics.
  • Influence yearly goal setting process to ensure corporate health and safety programs and local health and safety goals are incorporated as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain strong communication and feedback channels with central Health and Safety teams and other corporate functions to ensure successful delivery of corporate initiatives.
Who you are:
  • Post Secondary Education or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years experience supervising/managing individuals required
  • Minimum 11 years of related experience
Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements in oil and gas environment
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Safety Discipline
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • Process Safety Related Training (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, MOC)
  • Incident Investigation Training/Certified Leader
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis and incident investigation leadership
  • Experience in process safety auditing
  • Experience in industrial hygiene
  • Experience in contractor management
  • Experience in safe work permit
  • Experience in emergency response
  • Experience in MS Office applications required
  • Experience in SAP usage
