JOB DESCRIPTION

Fired heaters are the engines that drive many process industries around the world. Wood's Fired Heater Division has been supplying fired heaters for over 100 years, and is presently executing projects that target key challenges of the energy transition and future sustainability issues. Wood's Fired Heater Division in Hampton, NJ is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer. The ideal candidate for this position will have 14+ years of relevant structural and/or mechanical engineering experience. The position is located in Hampton, NJ and is eligible for flexible work arrangements (hybrid schedule).

Role Overview

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for performing structural and mechanical design calculations and managing assigned tasks and projects with a high degree of independence. He or she is also expected to collaborate effectively with the engineering and design team to complete projects in a timely manner. The Senior Structural Engineer interfaces with internal and external project stakeholders and may be required to act as the engineering lead on projects with values in excess of $10 million.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare structural and mechanical design calculations and design packages.
  • Review and approve drawings prepared by design staff and suppliers, including shop drawings.
  • Review and interpret code requirements and customer specifications.
  • Engage with key stakeholders (management team, clients, suppliers, contractors) in the execution and delivery of contracted activities.
  • Identify areas of risk, risk mitigation, and improvement opportunities, particularly with respect to safety.
  • Resolve difficult technical and other issues which are non-recurring and occasionally unique.
  • Travel to client locations for meetings and jobsite inspections both domestically and internationally may be required.
  • Collaborate with affiliate worldwide Products groups on practices, standards, and workshare.
  • Participate in industry association activities (API, ASME, etc.).
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers.


QUALIFICATIONS

Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 14+ years of progressive experience in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical engineering is required. Fired Heater/Reformer or similar industrial equipment experience is preferred, including design of steel structures, tubes support castings, stacks and piping.
  • PE License is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes (API, AISC, ASCE, AWS, ASME etc.)
  • Proficiency in STAAD or other similar structural analysis software.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other similar design software.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team and business environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
