SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) for the East Coast Security Operations team. The SSHO is a dynamic job that requires physical, mental, and cognitive abilities. The SSHO will need to ensure that all BSNC contracts are in compliance with contract requirements. This position will require travel to various locations, to include, but not limited to the following states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, DC, New York, and New Jersey. Overnight travel will be required for certain locations.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment at the designated site.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards to ensure compliance with established standards, regulations, and contract requirements, forwarding all reports to the Senior Site Safety Health Officer for review and dissemination.
  • Review safety procedures and processes with onsite security team members (i.e., Activity Hazard Analysis).
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety policies and procedures, addressing any deviations promptly.
  • Assist with writing/reviewing/submitting safety documents for Government review and approval.
  • Ensure that assigned security sites comply with contract, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations (i.e., OSHA, EM385 1-1, NFPA, ATSSA, ANSI).
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and provide training to security staff on safety protocols.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, or near misses, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
  • Provide reports as required to the Senior Site Safety Health Officer; notifying the Senior Site Safety Health Officer promptly of any/all serious concerns noted, or performance concerns.
  • Liaise with external safety regulatory agencies and ensure adherence to local safety regulations.
  • Keep abreast of industry safety standards and best practices, implementing updates as necessary.
  • Provide safety briefings and orientations to new security personnel and visitors.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's)
  • Associate degree from an accredited university and 5 years of continuous occupational safety related experience or 10 years of continuous occupational safety related experience (i.e., safety programs, processes, or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls) in lieu of associate degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain OSHA 30 DOL Card (General Industry) (must be obtained within six months of hire).
  • Current CPR/1st Aid/AED certifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance or higher.
  • United States citizen OR Lawful Resident who is has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence or employment as evidenced by Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services documentation.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license for state resided in.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and standards.
Preferred
  • Proven experience in safety management in a security or high-risk environment
  • Certification in occupational health and safety.
  • Emergency response training and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, or related field.
NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Job is performed in both an office setting as well as outdoors depending on the job site/location. Job sites may be outdoors, or indoors. During visits to job sites, the individual may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, hazardous noise, fall hazards, heights in excess of 10 feet, confined spaces, live traffic, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous materials, unexploded ordinance, and dimly lit areas. Travel to various job sites is required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
