The Role:
At Moderna, we strive to make the greatest possible impact on humanity with mRNA medicines. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to focus on building and operating the orchestration systems used to develop and manufacture individualized medicines to combat cancer.
We are seeking a skilled developer to help design, implement, and operate an advanced orchestration platform for individualized cancer therapies. The platform manages complex, event-driven workflows, seamlessly integrating systems from healthcare providers, labs, manufacturing, supply chain, and shipping to ensure the timely production and delivery of personalized medicines, while maintaining strict control over the chain of identity and custody. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, external suppliers, and healthcare providers to develop and operate the orchestration platform. Travel to Cambridge Massachusetts area is required.
Here's What You'll Do:
- Develop and Enhance the Orchestration Platform: Design, implement, and maintain a scalable, event-driven architecture that integrates with healthcare providers, labs, manufacturing systems, supply chains, and shipping systems.
- Build Modular Services: Develop a service-based architecture that ensures the segregation of responsibilities across various system components to improve efficiency, fault tolerance, and scalability.
- Ensure Data Integrity: Implement robust mechanisms to maintain strict control over the chain of identity and chain of custody throughout the entire production and delivery workflow.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with teams across healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, and logistics to ensure seamless integration and efficient workflow orchestration.
- Optimize Workflow Performance: Monitor and optimize the performance of event-driven workflows, ensuring timely execution of tasks such as triggering lab tests, initiating manufacturing, and coordinating shipping logistics.
- Automation and Error Handling: Build automation frameworks to handle routine tasks, and implement error-handling processes to detect, diagnose, and resolve workflow issues in real-time.
- API Development and Integration: Design and develop APIs that enable seamless communication between various systems and external partners, ensuring secure and efficient data exchange.
- Test and Deploy Changes: Ensure high coverage of automated testing for all system changes, following DevOps practices to rapidly deploy updates and new features without disrupting the workflow.
- Maintain Compliance: Ensure the platform complies with industry regulations, including GMP, ensuring the secure and compliant handling of personalized medicine production processes.
Here's What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer, with proficiency in both front-end (e.g., React, Angular) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java) technologies.
- Strong experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Expertise in building and managing event-driven architectures, with experience in Kafka, AWS Lambda, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, including experience with Flux or similar tools, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes for scalable deployment.
- Strong knowledge of service-based architectures and API management principles.
- An expert-level individual contributor to the coding tasks assigned
- Experience with workflow or orchestration problems, preferably in manufacturing or healthcare domains.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in pharmaceuticals or biotech, is a plus.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards in healthcare or manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
