The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, a remote storage facility called the Hampden Center, and the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, is a highly collaborative organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. Position Summary

Reporting to the Access Services Manager, this full-time position supervises the Stacks unit at the University of Denver Main Library. This position is responsible for coordinating stacks management projects and overseeing the daily routine of the unit. This position will hire, train, supervise, and evaluate hourly and work study positions for operation of the unit, and may train other student workers in the Access Services Department to provide backup support. This position will require a great deal of flexibility, project management, and creativity to ensure continuity of workflow in providing staff and patrons the necessary materials they require. Must be available to work Sundays and Mondays 11am-7pm, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10am-6pm.

Essential Functions

Stacks Coordination (50%)

  • Works independently and recognizes, identifies, and solves problems related to managing shelf space, stacks maintenance, and timely routing of library materials.
  • Coordinates retrieval of requested material, monitors pull-slip queues, troubleshoots problems related to work order requests, reviews and corrects item record status of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • In consultation with library faculty and staff, oversees project management for Main Library stacks projects, including space inventory, shifting, shelf-reading and re-shelving.
  • Works with the Dean's Office to manage physical repairs to the library's compact shelving.
  • Creates and utilizes Alma Analytics reports to manage missing items, generate lists for pulls and projects, compile statistics, and more.
  • Compiles Stacks statistics for the annual report.
Staff Management (35%)
  • Supervises, hires, and interviews student workers in the Stacks unit at the Main Library.
  • Responsible for budgeting and scheduling of Stacks unit student workers.
  • Trains student workers in unit workflow, ensures adequate coverage of unit during hours of operation, assists in the development of work standards for the department, and provides leadership to all unit members.
  • Determines staffing levels and participation in Stacks projects.
  • Works closely with Access Services Manager and Circulation Supervisor to cross-train hourly and student employees.
Lending Desk On-Call (15%)
  • Works on-call at the Lending Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Lending Desk activities utilizing the Alma ILS to circulate library materials, collect fines utilizing the credit card machine, answer user questions utilizing the University Libraries website and electronic resources, and refer patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed.
  • Handles patron questions and concerns, communicates and handles service problems politely and efficiently, follows procedure to solve patron problems, maintains pleasant and professional image.
  • Assists with coverage during extended hours during the University's finals period. Occasionally opens the library on Sundays at 9:30am.
Other duties as assigned. Assists with cross training within Access Services department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring considerable attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate fluctuating workloads, and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot issues with automated library systems, computers, and other office equipment
  • Ability to collect and analyze statistics and maintain clerical records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, users, and University Faculty; demonstrated organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working in a library.
  • Experience in a public service or customer service-forward role.
  • Experience performing detailed work in an automated system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in material management at a library or similar institution.
  • Experience with Ex Libris Alma or a comparable ILS.
  • Experience with Sierra Web or a comparable ILS.
  • Working knowledge of LC classification schemes and subject headings.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office products, notably Excel and Word.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Prior project management experience.
Working Environment
  • Indoor work environment
  • Split between a desk in an open-office environment, a busy service desk, and significant movement around the library
  • Workload varies alongside the academic calendar and user needs
  • Noise level ranges from quiet to conversational speaking
  • This position necessitates substantial in-person engagement during the majority of working hours. The University of Denver and University Libraries offer a progressive flexible work policy that permits approximately one day of remote work per week, which can be negotiated between the employee and their supervisor.
  • The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization
Physical Activities
  • The person in this position alternates between staying in a stationary position for extended periods and needing to move around the library.
  • They perform significant shelving activities-which require stooping, bending, kneeling, traversing stairs or stepstools, and lifting up to 35 pounds-pushing a loaded library cart, and moving packages and boxes.
Work Schedule

Sundays and Mondays 11am-7pm, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10am-6pm.

The salary grade for the position is 6.

Hourly Range:

The hourly range for the position is $20.40 - $23.00.
