Release Engineer Responsibilities:
- Plan the release of project deliverables and release life cycle.
- Manage risks and resolve challenges that impact release scope, quality, and schedule, coordinating checklist and deployment plan execution
- Develop rollback criteria and plans for rolling back a deployment.
- Plan release windows and cycles across portfolios, components
- Manage relationships working on interrelated processes.
- Communicate the project-related tasks such as plans, timelines, requirements, etc. between different teams.
- Track the progress and find issues, if any. Always work to improve the process of release.
- Schedule the release readiness reviews before deployment and milestone reviews after each release.
- Schedule the CAB meetings to discuss the release schedules with the team and find roadblocks, if any.
- Maintain documentation related to procedures on build and release, various notifications lists, and dependencies.
- Management and tracking of all high-integrity commitments, and providing insights to stakeholders.
- Develop automation and release management tools along with scripts necessary for the construction, continuous integration, and deployment of software release
- Research new software development and the best methods and techniques for managing configurations regarding a business's existing needs
- Oversee the incident management process and team members involved in resolving the incident.
- Respond to a reported service incident, identifying the cause, and initiating the incident management process.
- Prioritize incidents according to their urgency and influence on the business.
- Produce documents that outline incident protocols such as how to handle cybersecurity threats or how to correct server failures.
- Collaborate with the incident management team to ensure that all protocols are diligently followed.
- Log all incidents and their resolution to see if there are recurring malfunctions.
- Adjust the incident management process as required to ensure its effectiveness.
- Manage issues related to incidents by assigning workloads to appropriate team and re-schedule non-urgent tasks.
- Communicate with upper management if major issues are found in the IT system, any changes to Release and also provide timely reports and stats on all production release and incidents.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ year's experience working in IT service management, or a similar role.
- IT service management software experience including ServiceNow and Jira.
- Must work a rotation twice monthly from 9 pm - 11 pm for deployments
- Travel up to 10% during PI Planning
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of programming languages, such as SQL, .Net
- Knowledge of cloud Platform like Azure and AWS
- Excellent managerial skills and ability to collaborate with team members
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
- Experience working with off-shore teams helpful
