The Mission of the Muscarelle Museum of Art is: To foster the full integration of a dynamic art museum into the life and liberal arts mission of William & Mary and to serve as a model of curatorial excellence and a catalyst for art exploration at the University and in the surrounding community.

Position Summary:

The Visitor Services Supervisor at the Muscarelle Museum of Art is at the forefront of ensuring an exceptional and welcoming visitor experience that is reflective of the museum's mission. The Supervisor will assist, train, and supervise all aspects of visitor services at the Muscarelle Museum of Art: reception desk, timed admissions, monitoring galleries, program/event registration, scheduling of gallery monitors and volunteers, and gathering visitation data. The Supervisor will also be responsible for managing and scheduling tour requests.

Work Hours:Wednesday thru SundaySaturday: 9:30 am - 5:30 pmSunday: 11:30 am - 5:30 pmFlexible with some variation as scheduled.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This full-time position will require additional hours beyond the typical work week, to regularly include evenings and weekends as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc., as directed and approved by the supervisor.
  • This is a restricted position subject to the availability of funding.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Must possess exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with the diverse populations and communities that the Muscarelle Museum of Art serves.
  2. High school graduate or equivalent.
  3. Highly organized and detailed oriented. Self-starter with a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects simultaneously.
  4. Strong computer skills are a must with the ability to quickly learn modules, point of sale system, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree2. Experience in a higher education and non-profit arts environment3. Supervisory and scheduling experience4. Ability to acquire and maintain certificate in CPR and first aid.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $45,000 commensurate with experience.
