Job Summary of the VP, Global Health Economics, Reimbursement & Policy

Healthcare Economics, Reimbursement & Policy (HER) is a critical element to ensure success in an increasingly challenging market environment. The device, biologics and drug markets are dynamic with evolving regulations and patients often taking greater role in driving their treatment decisions. To deliver the highest value to their customers, Axogen is committed to the continuous pursuit of economic value, evidence generation, patient-centric value proposition of our products, and reimbursement policies (coverage, coding and payment) that support patient and provider access. This Vice President, Global Health Economics, Reimbursement and Policy is responsible for leading and directing the HER function for Axogen.

Requirements of the VP, Global Health Economics, Reimbursement & Policy
  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Business, Marketing and/or in a related field.
  • Master's in Business Administration is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50%.
  • 10 plus years of experience industry in health economics and outcomes research or other related function working in the medical device/biotechnology/pharmaceutical
  • Previous track record of working in Health Economics & Reimbursement for medical devices, biologics and drugs.
  • A minimum of six+ years of progressive leadership/management experience in Health Economics and Market Access.
  • Experience leading health economics and outcomes research and overseeing delivery of research outcomes (e.g., budgetary impact, cost-effectiveness, cost-utility analyses, prospective studies, real world evidence studies, and claims database analysis).
  • Experience in evaluation of the economic value of products and therapies with the clinical and quality of life outcomes data from clinical trials and/or epidemiology studies.
  • Experience in the development and execution of lifecycle economic evidence and market access strategies enabling market access and commercial success.
  • Experience in representing the voice of external, non-clinical stakeholders, such as payers and providers.
  • Experience in scientific evidence generation (real world evidence HEOR, Phase II, III and IV trials) and scientific information exchange with all key stakeholders.
  • Experience with Commercial Insurance Providers with successful history of influencing commercial payor policy
  • Experience working with or for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and/or other government healthcare agencies
  • Able to make decisions in the face of imperfect data and create performance measures to "course correct" as the market moves and enroll others in a vision and strategic plan, influence and effectively implement
  • Orientation towards delivering on goals and being part of fast-moving, collaborative team in a dynamic matrix environment
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with various levels of management and demonstrate the ability to manage differences and needs between multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities focused on hiring, developing, and retaining a world-class team as well as success driving results.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically, up to 50% of the time to respond to the needs of the customers and organization.
  • Ideally has existing relationships with medical directors through strong networking
  • Has created health economics models to show compelling cost information to payers worldwide
  • Able to make decisions in the face of imperfect data and create performance measures to "course correct" as the market moves
  • Able to enroll others in a vision and strategic plan, influence and effectively implement
  • Experience designing and executing market research
  • Orientation towards delivering on goals and being part of fast-moving, collaborative team

Responsibilities of the VP, Global Health Economics, Reimbursement & Policy

The specific duties of the VP, Global Health Economics, Reimbursement & Policy include but are not limited to:
  • Sets the vision and the strategy for the global HER function in the US and across the global markets, and the Axogen product portfolio.
  • Advises and drives innovative HER initiatives and priorities to advance success of Axogen products across the global markets.
  • Fosters capabilities and skills development within the function to support innovation and anticipation of local market trends that inform new and effective market access strategies.
  • Develops and manages HER resourcing, budgets, and portfolio.
  • Collaborates with Market Development Directors, Clinical and Medical Affairs to align on key business needs and priorities for HER.
  • Leads the development of strategic economic value proposition of Axogen products demonstrating the differentiated economic value of Axogen technologies and providing competitive advantage.
  • Advises and informs market access approaches and payor strategies based on evidence-based insights, trends and developments.
  • Promotes innovative global health economics/outcomes research for the Axogen portfolio inclusive of clinical evidence strategy to address policy decision-makers needs aligned with the evidence-based medicine framework.
  • Ensures ongoing assessment of HER strategies and clinical and economic evidence opportunities to strengthen and advance market access.
  • Advise business development opportunities with respect to HER considerations.
  • Fosters the development of innovative real-world evidence (RWE) and outcomes research techniques to generate novel evidence of value (e.g., cost benefit and budget impact models, retrospective claims database, clinical comparative effectiveness etc.).
  • Works closely with key stakeholders to ensure awareness of market access policy insights, positions, and areas of focus to advance access and enable/shape external advocacy efforts.
  • Defines a reimbursement pathway (coding, coverage, payment) for future products and life cycle management of existing by identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Delivers effective robust and credible presentation to reimbursement stakeholders, agencies and/or payors
  • Monitors U.S. federal policies, guidance, regulations relating to policy and reimbursement issues, and effectively communicates complex matters to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensures records of filings and approvals are maintained
  • Manages reimbursement programs to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Familiar with the principles of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Management (HTM), conducts ongoing surveillance and leads responses to inquiries regarding technology assessment committees driving value of products.
  • Accesses appropriate expertise and guidance when addressing external reimbursement inquiries.
  • Promotes exchange and dissemination of evidence-based information with all relevant external stakeholders.
  • Develops and cultivates external network of policy stakeholders, market access experts and advisors to advance access policy objectives and inform on US and global/regional specific trends/topics of importance to Axogen

This position is eligible for an annual bonus. Salary Range

$296,975-$338,276 USD

Axogen is on a hybrid work schedule for some of our positions based out of our headquarters in Florida, with 3 days in office and 2 days remote. The hybrid work schedule does not include sales or facilities in Ohio or Texas.

Axogen follows healthcare system guidelines with respect to credentialing, vaccinations and other employment/compliance related requirements, as well as CDC guidance. Axogen reserves the right to amend its policies from time to time in its sole discretion.
