Job Summary: (Internal Travel)
Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Able to perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural setting.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Clinical Skills a. Completion of VI competencies b. Able to use critical thinking skills c. Work in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologists d. Preps the patient for procedure e. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique f. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure h. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure(SIM CODES)
- Quality and Patient Safety a. Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, ie. Armband, DOB, verbal identification b. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker c. Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear d. Uses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out form e. Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated
- Departmental Responsibilities a. Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs b. Able to work scheduled and "On-Call" c. Knows existing lines of communication and authority d. Handles communications properly e. Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting ie. AIDET f. Transports patients as needed g. Provides privacy and comfort for patient/customers h. Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance Improvement i. Completes necessary paperwork j. Answers departmental phone using proper scripting k. Maintains stock levels and outdates l. Maintain current License and BLS certifications m. Assist in inservice/training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate n. Works as a team with other VI staff to obtain the best possible outcome o. Performs any other duties as needed when asks by leadership
- Patient Education a. Responsible for patient, family/support system education b. Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed
Required Minimum Education:
Other Education Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology. Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
Basic Life Support 1.00 Required
BLS - Instructor 1.00 Required
BLS - Provisional 1.00 Required
ARRT Radiography 2.00 Required
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience in Diagnostic Radiology Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Competency in all aspects of diagnostic radiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.
Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as to how theyaffect the quality of a procedure.
The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude
