Required:

Work schedule to fit Archives hours of operation 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Experience with standard computer programs and operating systems, namely Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Windows. Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and alphabetization. Bending, stooping, reaching, climbing step stools, lifting boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. Extended use of keyboard or other equipment, time in front of computer screen. Willingness to learn and practice rules and procedures of operation of the Archives of the Big Bend.

Interest in History, especially Local/Regional. Ability to read cursive. Ability to read Spanish.

Preferred:

Experience in a similar or related job or environment such as an Archives, Library, Museum, or office.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist Archives staff in their duties to provide a variety of services to patrons, promote and advocate for the archival collections, and process and provide access to archival materials. Clerical duties may include: data entry, filing, photocopying, sorting, shredding, replenish office supplies, etc.

General duties may include: pulling and re-shelving books and archival materials; shelf reading, straightening, and dusting of book collection; assisting with shifting of book and archival collections; washing gloves; keeping work and research areas clear and clean; assisting archive staff with classes & groups; observe security/safety procedures always.

Specialized duties (training provided) may include: handling of archival materials in a variety of formats, assisting with housing and or processing of archival materials, use of equipment and specialized software, such as scanners and microfilm readers.

General office conditions including fluorescent lights, exposure to dust, and constant opportunities for paper cuts. The Archives of the Big Bend is a department of the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and make available for research, primary materials documenting the diverse history and culture of the Big Bend and Trans-Pecos region of Texas and the corresponding border area of northern Mexico.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
